Call for EOI from Writers, Thinkers, and Kaupapa Māori Creatives for our Toi Tangata Journal!

Toi Tangata Journal – Expressions of Interest is Now Open

Toi Tangata is excited to announce the launch of our very own Toi Tangata Journal, a dedicated annual, online publication that celebrates whakaaro, rangahau, and kaupapa Māori in the realms of wellbeing.

This journal will uplift the voices and mahi of practitioners, community champions and Māori researchers working across the interconnected spaces of movement, play, kai, and Māori knowledge systems. We’re looking for 10 high-quality articles that reflect the depth, diversity, and innovation within our hapori.

Journal Format:

  • Includes both long-form (up to 5,000 words) and short-form (2,500 words) articles
  • Expected published date: February 2026

Streams of Contribution:

  • Toi Rangahau – Kaupapa Māori research
  • Toi Kori – Movement and physical activity
  • Toi Tākaro – Māori play, games, and creativity
  • Kai Māori – Kai Māori, food practices, nutrition, and food sovereignty

Writing Support

We’re here to support you every step of the way! Whether you’re new to writing or an experienced author, we will provide:

  • Online writing workshops
  • A dedicated writing retreat (noho-style)
  • Ongoing guidance on planning, structure, writing and editing

Whether you're a seasoned academic, a community storyteller, or someone holding space for kaupapa Māori in your whānau or mahi, we welcome your whakaaro.
