Our kaimahi have been on the move delivering three incredible wānanga across the motu in Tūwharetoa, Waiariki, and Tauranga Moana, bringing the energy of tākaro Māori, kori tinana, and kai ora to kōhanga reo from across the three rohe.

Each wānanga was filled with laughter, korikori, and inspiration as kaimahi from Kōhanga Reo came together to reignite tākaro and korikori within their spaces while exploring their aspirations around kai and hauora Māori. From start to finish, the vibe was pure joy - puku kata katoa ngā wānanga! As one kaimahi put it, “if the puku are laughing and the kai is good,  kei te pai katoa te wānanga!”

He Pī Ka Rere is Toi Tangata’s kaupapa Māori approach to kori and kai designed for Kōhanga Reo. Grounded in mātauranga Māori, atua-based movement, and the principles of tākaro Māori, the programme supports tamariki to explore te ao Māori through active play, while also growing the knowledge, confidence, and reo of kaimahi and whānau.

These wānanga were a reminder of the power of coming together to move, learn, eat, and celebrate the wellbeing of our mokopuna.

The kōrero, the games, and the laughter all reflected the kaupapa’s essence:

  • Te Ihi, te Wehi, te Wana - the joy of movement
  • Whakawhanaungatanga - connectedness
  • Te Whai Pāra - attainment of skills
  • Whakawhanaketanga - child development

Ngā mihi nunui to all our Kōhanga Reo whānau who joined us in Tūwharetoa, Waiariki, and Tauranga Moana. Your energy, manaakitanga, and passion for your tamariki keep the He Pī Ka Rere kaupapa flying high.

He pīpī paopao noho kōhanga, he pī ka rere!
